Either let Dale Jr. have the #3 or retire the number from the sport just like MLB did with Jakie Robinson's number in 1998, just my two cents. BTW, why is everyone getting so bent outta shape on this car. IT IS JUST A FICTIONAL!! And LarryJ mentioned that Childress would possibly sell the rights to the #3 down the road, just not the style of the classic #3. Well, this car dosen't have the intimidator 3 on it, does it? And plus, a lot of MLB teams used the #42 Jakie's number before they retired it. I understand where everyone is coming from on this, but it's just a fictional. JEEEEZ!!!!!

IMHO I think the #3 should be given to the PREVIOUS champion to use for the entire year...Meaning LaBonte won championship in 2000, so he runs the #3 for the entire 2001 season, Gordon won in 2001, he runs it in 2002, Stewart won in 2002, so this year he would have ran the #3 car...That to me would be the MOST respectful way to tribute a TRUE champion....

Richard was on wind tunnel a couple weeks ago and he still pays to keep the number. He has not given it to DEI. He allowed them to use it on the Earnhardt Foundation diecasts but Richard still has the rights to the number for use in cup. He said one day the could possibly used by another driver, just not the Earnhardt stylized 3. He said the only people he'd allow to use the stylized 3 is another Earnhardt, meaning Dale Jr., Kerry, or if their kids raced.

The #3 has not been retired. Richard keeps reserving the number from NASCAR so no one else can have it.... But one day Nascar might stop him from doing it..... but nice carz... *Dan_T*

Childress and NASCAR have already said that they will never run a 3 car again. I believe it was officially retired.

look i think the #3 will come back...nascar has never retired a # and i dont think they ever will...maybe in a few years someone will have the courage to run a 3...personally id love to see a car #3 back on the track...yes dale was important but i dont think he would want his number to never be run again they never dropped the 7 or 28 after davey and alan... or 22 after fireball roberts...i think someday it will be back

i completely agree, i believe the only driver that would remotely have the opportunity to drive the next #3 in nextel cup would be dale jr. but even he respects his dad's memory. I doubt a 3 will be ran again. Maybe an 03 but not 3

Even if Wells could get the #3, and i don't think NASCAR would give it out, the Earnhardt fans would probably be mad. I would be surprised if anyone ever ran the #3 again.
